In a piece of inspiring news, the Tristar-owned vessel, Silver Muna, recently rescued two men and a dog drifting at sea.
According to the US Coast Guard, Kevin Hyde and Joe Ditomasso were sailing from Cape May, New Jersey, to Marathon, Florida. However, they disappeared after their Atrevida II sailboat left North Carolina’s Outer Banks on December 3rd.
On December 13th, Hyde and Ditomasso waved their arms to draw the attention of the crew of the Silver Muna tanker, about 214 miles off the Delaware coast. The US Coast Guard added that the Atrevida II was without power or fuel when rescued, making the Tristar vessel’s intervention a matter of life or death for those stranded onboard.
The men and the dog were taken aboard the tanker and assessed by the ship’s medical team. They then remained on Silver Muna until it arrived in New York. “This is an excellent example of the maritime community’s combined efforts to ensure safety of life at sea,” Daniel Schrader, a US Coast Guard spokesman said in a statement.
