Traffic surge at JNPA

India’s JNPA port has announced that the total volume of traffic handled in August was 7.34 million tonnes, 14.75% higher than the 6.39 million tonnes recorded in the same month of 2022.

Container traffic levels have been particularly resilient with a throughput of 555,275 TEU representing an 11.6 % uplift compared to August 2022. This is the highest monthly figure since the port’s inception. Volumes at the port’s BMCT terminal amounted to 192,298 TEU, up 39.14%, making it both the biggest, and fastest growing of the JNPA terminal operators. This is also a monthly record for an individual terminal since JNPA commenced operations.

The NSICT terminal handled 100,787 TEU in August, up 15.96%, APMT moved 108,533 TEU, down 28.98%, and the 100,226 TEU recorded at NSIGT was 7.03% higher than in the August of 2022. Two new terminals, Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal (NSFT) and Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal (NSDT), started operations from February and May respectively this year, and handled around 50,000 TEU between them.

In the four months April-August 2023, JNPA achieved a throughput of 2.6 million TEU, up 4.88 % compared to the equivalent months of 2022. BMCT was again the star performer, with a throughput of 904,000 TEU, 39.5% higher than the corresponding period in the year before.
