Qatari port operator QTerminals has achieved a notable milestone in its operations at Hamad port, with the commencement of quadruple lift, and remote control, crane operations. These new systems made their debut with the arrival of the containership, MSC Maria Alina, when new productivity benchmarks were set.
Overall QTerminals handled a total of 4448 transhipment containers, including the loading and unloading of four 20ft containers simultaneously, delivering a record crane productivity of 46.32 gross container moves per hour and berth productivity of 220.38 gross moves per hour, using remote operations. This was the highest container handling productivity rate ever recorded at Hamad Port and highlights QTerminals’ commitment to innovation and operational excellence, the company added in a statement.
QTerminals is a joint venture between Mwani Qatar and Milaha. As well as operating Hamad Port’s Container Terminal 1, the company is developing a second container terminal in the port, and it’s expanding its portfolio of overseas interests. In the past few months it has signed an agreement to purchase the Rotterdam-based terminal operator, Kramer Group, and entered into a joint venture to develop a container terminal in Poland.
