Sohar Port and Freezone has signed a land lease agreement with Elite Hazardous Waste Management Solution to set up a hazardous waste treatment plant on a 10,000m2 site within the Freezone. Representing a total investment of US $3.5 million, the plant will be designed to treat industrial waste, and ensure compliance with local and international regulations. End products will include heavy oil for use in slow-moving machines, as well as low-contamination carbon dust suitable for cement and road construction industries. Initially it will have a production capacity of 40 tons per day, which is set to increase to 80 tons per day within a year.
Production is expected to start in May 2024, and will contribute significantly to the development of the circular economy cluster in Sohar Freezone.
