Oman’s Asyad Drydock recently demonstrated its capabilities by applying a nano-epoxy silicone coating on Asyad Shipping’s Ultramax bulk carrier, Jabal Al Kawr. The brand new coating technology, supplied by Azra Tech Inc., was applied for the first time in the Middle East, and the second time globally, on Minoa Marine’s Julia earlier this year, also at Asyad Drydock’s facilities in Duqm. The coating was applied following a full SA 2.0 abrasive blasting surface treatment.
Asyad Shipping commissioned the application of the eco-friendly nano-epoxy silicone coating on Jabal Al Kawr as part of its strategy for delivering higher standards of efficiency and sustainability. The coating features a number of economic and environmental advantages, for example significantly reducing drag, increasing fuel efficiency and lowering carbon emissions, while also ensuring that less maintenance work is required during subsequent dockings. Additionally, the smooth nano-epoxy silicone coating is resistant to fouling without the need to use biocides, thereby reducing impact on the marine environment.
