Drydocks World has officially opened its South Yard expansion, a multi-million dollar facility designed to further enhance its existing capabilities, particularly in the offshore segment. The new 75,000m2 area boosts fabrication capacity by 40%, enabling the shipyard to handle multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, including building offshore platform topsides and developing high-voltage offshore converter platforms.
Equipped with what is claimed to be the region’s largest load-out jetty, capable of handling structures up to 37,000 tonnes, the South Yard is fully powered by green energy from the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, demonstrating a a high level of commitment to reducing environmental footprint and aligning with global decarbonisation goals.

The South Yard is equipped with some advanced technologies, including robotic profile-cutting machines, automated Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems, and a heavy-duty rolling machine, which is claimed to significantly improve fabrication precision and efficiency. A 5000 tonne sheerleg floating crane, expected to be operational by 2026, will further expand the yard’s ability to handle large and complex projects.
